Celebrating Girls and Science!

February 15, 2024 by Emily Moore
  • What did the little girl say to the thundercloud? “You may be loud, but my ideas are groundbreaking!”
  • What did the yeast say in art class?“I'm just here to add a little culture!”
  • Why was the girl chemist always calm? She had all the solutions!

The kitchen, where the culinary arts meet science, is the ideal place to celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science. In Sticky Fingers Cooking® classes, everyone has a seat at the table!

Children find endless opportunities for scientific adventure in the kitchen and the most thrilling discoveries often start with a simple set of ingredients. Whether it’s uncovering the role of yeast in bread-making, mastering the art of emulsifying a vinaigrette, or watching the wonder of crystallization with homemade rock candy, there’s no shortage of ways to spark kids’ curiosity and expand their learning.

If your child has taken a Sticky Fingers Cooking® class or you’ve explored our online recipes, you’ve likely encountered our “Scrumptious Science” tidbits, kid-friendly explanations of the science behind the recipe step. We want to make it easy and accessible for kids and families to embrace the science side of cooking and baking.

Eager to fuel your child’s enthusiasm for S.T.E.A.M.? Register them for a Sticky Fingers Cooking® class, where discovery and flavor are always on the menu! See our upcoming online S.T.E.A.M. classes for easy at-home learning or browse our in-person S.T.E.A.M camps (available in select areas).
